A Simple Sunday is Born

Being the frequenter of blogs that I am, I’ve noticed a common trend throughout the virtual world. Themed days – usually some sort of alliteration is involved (ex: What I Ate Wednesday via Peas and Crayons or Fitness Fridays ala The Lean Green Bean), so I thought I’d make one myself!

And thus, Simple Sunday was born!

Alliteration. Check!

Every Sunday I will write about one simple thing that makes me extremely happy, because let’s face it, it is the simple things that really matter.

simple sunday

Yesterday only continued to be lovely after my breakfast and work out. The sun continued to shine all day! Right into the evening. It was absolutely wonderful. Something about the sunshine makes both MamaBear and I crave color. What ever do I mean by that? Well, basically, flowers.

Mama and I went shopping!

And, we got a little something-something.

Instead of buying a pre-arranged bundle of flowers, we opted to get a variety and arrange them ourselves! The outcome – although not amazing – turned out A.OK, I think!

Then, I got a little camera happy. Shoot me.

I don’t know why, but I really enjoyed arranging the flowers. Did the stems drive me totally bonkers? They did. Did I discovered that I’ve not yet outgrown my perfection-seeking personality? I did. Did I have fun? Oh, goodness, yes!

Something about flowers always manages to bring a smile to my face. Added bonus? If they’re of the yellow and purple variety, I’ll be even happier. I’ve always wanted to start a flower garden, but for some reason I’ve just never really had the umph to go through with it!

Don’t you hate that? When there is something you know you really would love to do, but just can’t seem to commit to them? That’s a garden for me. I want one more than anything, but I just can’t find it in me to start get started. I think – just maybe – I’m scared because the concept is unknown to me. I wouldn’t even know where to start. Perhaps I’ll buy a small indoor plant and see if I have the capability to keep it alive…

Nevertheless, I absolutely love flowers. I think my favorite(s) might be sunflowers and daisies. I quite like tulips, as well. Oh, and roses! Actually, in retrospect, I think I just like them all. I truly believe that if you just sit down and look at flowers – real ones – you’ll get a sense of calm. Go try it out! Or, if you’re not near a garden, just look at my pictures up there! Because, I mean, I’ve clearly captured the true essences of floral beauty.

sweet treats

The night only continued to be amazing – except for the small fact that I had to work. Ugh.

My dinner, one the other hand, was absolutely tasteful! My boyfriend – a hater of all things eggplant-y – will most likely disagree with you, but he clearly hasn’t a clue what he’s talking about!

A tasty combination of turkey breast, hummus, balsamic, roasted eggplant, green veggies and zucchini!
For desert? Strawberry slices, almond butter, cacao nibs (obsessed) and Greek Yogurt.

This was so good, I plan to make it again today for lunch, only incorporate some avocado. Because, it’s just a fact that ‘cados make the world a better place.

todays work out

This morning I woke up with a sore tush, so I knew it needed to be an upper body day! And, baby, was it ever!

Hold Plank… to get into that Tank-ini Workout
Start with a five minute warm up – as always – of light jogging and dynamic stretches.

You’ll need and interval timer, a mat, water and 5-10 pound weights
Set your interval timer to five rounds of four minute circuits
Set your intervals to 60sec/60sec, with a 2 minute break in between each set.

Set one:
One minute cardio! (high knees, butt kicks, running man, anything, just move at max effort)
One minute in-plank rows-to-kick back (A Many Rep As Possible, or AMRAPs)
Repeat once

2 minute sprint (on bike, elliptical, in place… you name it)

Set two:
One minute cardio (I personally like doing high knees for 30 secs, then butt kicks!)
One minute Santana Push Ups w/ 5-10lbs (AMRAP – preform push up, then lift arm with weight into side plank. Keep lifting arm strong)
Repeat once

2 minute sprint (on bike, elliptical, in place… you name it)

Set three:
One minute cardio (I started incorporating jumping squats because I love them)
One minute in-plank front extensions with 5-10 lbs (AMRAP – hold plank and alternate raising arms forward. Again, keep raising arm strong)
Repeat once

2 minutes sprint (on bike, elliptical, in place… you name it)

Set four:
One minute: cardio (I was just going crazy at this point)
One minute Superman push ups (AMRAP – preform push up, then lift both your right arm and left leg. Alternate sides)
Repeat once

2 minutes sprint (on bike, elliptical, in place… you name it)

Set five
One minute cardio (I think I started doing more jumping squats)
One minute Tummy Tucks (AMRAP – hold plank and pull your knee into your eblow)
One minute Mountain climbers (remain in plank and quickly preform tummy tucks – like you’re running in plank)
One minute holding plank

2 minutes of light jogging

Stretch it out!

I actually really loved this work out! Lately, when it comes to work outs, I like getting my heart-rate up and challenging my body but not really killing it too too much. I also love breaking up cardio like this! It makes it feel less dreadful. Plus, your heart-rate remains up during your toning, so it can still be considered cardio! Ideal? Heck ya!

Anyhow, I am pretty hungry after that beast of a work out and should probably go grab a bite!

Stay sweet – and smell some flowers.
